How Long Does Botox Last?

If you’re looking for an aesthetic treatment that can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, tighten your jawline and create a more youthful appearance, Botox can help. Here at The Elixir Skin Clinic in Doncaster, we put together tailored treatment plans for all our clients to ensure they get lasting results and a renewed sense of confidence.

Today, we’re looking at Botox injections, a popular injectable that’s often referred to as a wrinkle relaxer for its skin-soothing properties. We’ll share more about it, and how long you can expect your results to last, in today’s post.

What is Botox, and is it legal?

Botox gets its name from its active ingredient, botulinum toxin A. Thankfully, it’s not a harmful substance when used as an aesthetic treatment, but it can be used to reduce movement and so ‘smooth wrinkles’ in areas where repeated expressions have aged the skin. It’s legal when administered by a qualified medical professional and for extra peace of mind, must be prescribed first. Regulations have tightened around the procedure in recent years – so not just anybody can offer it.

What does it do?

The active ingredient, botulinum toxin A, helps to dull signals between nerves and muscles, which means the surrounding tissue has less movement and lines and wrinkles appear softer. It can’t remove lines and wrinkles, and the effects are only temporary.

How long does Botox last?

Treatment typically takes a couple of weeks for results to develop, which can then last anywhere from 3 to 6 months. Lots of factors might affect this, including whether it’s a new treatment or a top-up; your skin texture; your age and metabolism; and possibly even other areas, like genetics.

Does Botox look obvious?

No, with an experienced hand, it can look like a natural, refreshing improvement to your skin. It won’t look fake or frozen unless too much is administered. That’s why some people choose a smaller amount, which they can then ‘top-up’ if needed.

Does it hurt?

Not usually, thanks to the fine needles used in the procedure and our expert techniques. But, you might experience some discomfort and tenderness afterwards, which typically passes in a matter of days.

Can both men and women have Botox?

Yes, and it’s one of the top aesthetic treatments around the world. To book a consultation for Botox and find out more about it, you can get in touch with our Doncaster aesthetics clinic, Elixir Skin Clinic.
