International Women’s Day: Meet The Women Behind Elixir

As we celebrate women across the world on International Women’s Day 2025, we thought we’d start a little closer to home and reintroduce the women behind Elixir Skin Clinic; peeling back the curtains on the journey they’ve taken to become the powerhouse that is the Elixir Doncaster team!

What is ‘International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on 8th March and is a day to recognise the achievements of women everywhere; particularly in the social, economic, cultural and political fields: to shine a light on issues of gender equality and women’s rights, with the aim of creating more synergy across the genders.

Dating back to the early 1900’s, the IWD movement found its inspiration from women’s right activism of the time, particularly in the labour movements across Europe and North America; for example, the Women’s Suffrage Movement, where women fought for better pay, working conditions and the right to vote. In 1910, the idea of an international day was proposed by German activist Clara Zetkin and by 1911, the first International Women’s Day was celebrated. Since then, IWD has spread across the globe, raising awareness of ongoing challenges faced by women including discrimination, violence and the gender pay gap.

Women in Business

As well as raising awareness of women’s issues, International Women’s Day is also a day to celebrate the amazing achievements women have made over the years, highlighting the rise of successful women in Business and Entrepreneurship; bridging the gap in what was once a predominantly male world.

The UK has seen a significant increase in women business owners over the past decade, reflecting a hugely positive shift towards gender diversity in entrepreneurship. In fact, since 2003, women business ownership has increased an immense 76%, with approximately 1.6 million women-owned businesses as of 2023, making up around 20% of all UK businesses!

A Woman’s World: The Story Behind Elixir Skin Clinic

This International Women’s Day, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible women shaping the aesthetics industry—one of whom is the inspiring founder of Elixir Skin Clinic, Lyndsey Thomas and equally as incredible Lyndsey’s daughter and business partner Ayesha Thomas. With a background in healthcare, a passion for aesthetics, and an unwavering drive to empower others, their journey into business is a testament to the strength, determination, and talent that women bring to the table.

A Journey of Education and Guts

Lyndsey’s journey to becoming an aesthetics expert wasn’t without determination. Beginning her medical training at Hull University she then progressed on to a nursing degree at the University of Sheffield and a prescribing qualification from De Montfort University. However, her step into aesthetics required courage and commitment—borrowing money from her parents, she travelled alone to London to train at KT Training. It was her first time in the capital, her first time on the tube, and an experience that solidified her dedication to her craft.

Ayesha’s own path to the powerhouse Aesthetics Nurse she is today came with its own grit and determination. She began her nursing training in Leeds in 2020, where she not only poured her heart into education, but also gained hands-on experience administering Endymed treatments to patients. Ayesha gained a first-class Bachelor of Science in Nursing Honours Degree in 2023 and immediately continued her training and experience gaining employment a dermatology ward, taking her passion for skin health to the next level. Even today, Ayesha has not put the brakes on education and training; regularly attending conferences and continuously doing her own research on the latest innovative procedures in the industry.

From Theatre Nurse to Aesthetic Specialist: A Leap of Passion

Before stepping into the world of aesthetics, Lyndsey dedicated her career to the NHS as a Theatre Nurse, a role she deeply enjoyed. However, the allure of aesthetic medicine was always in the background. The ability to combine medical expertise with artistry while helping people feel their best was a challenge too exciting to resist. The decision to start her own business wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was about embracing freedom, creativity, and independence.

Ayesha has been a key figure in the family business from a young age, even before she started her training in the industry, helping with Elixir’s marketing and administration. Ayesha had always had an interest in medical aesthetics and so it only made perfect sense to join forces with mum Lyndsey and create the dream team that is the Elixir Doncaster Team.

The Elixir Doncaster Team: Passion for Natural Beauty and Confidence

At the heart of the Elixir Doncaster Team is a commitment to natural enhancements. “I love providing ‘tweakments’—subtle aesthetic treatments that help people look like themselves, just a refreshed, more confident version. There is something incredibly rewarding about helping someone regain their self-assurance” says Lyndsey. With the team’s joint knowledge, training and experience, Lyndsey and Ayesha have perfected the art of creating the subtle facial enhancements their patients have come to expect from the treatments from Elixir Skin Clinic

The Strength of an All-Women Business

Running a business as a woman comes with unique challenges, but it also brings a strong sense of pride. Elixir Skin Clinic is an all-women-led business, built on the values of care, trust, and empowerment. Lyndsey explains, “As women, we have so much to offer, yet we often find ourselves overlooked. Owning my own business gives me the freedom to run things my way, and one of the most rewarding aspects is knowing that I can pass this business down to my daughter one day.”

The Future of the Elixir Doncaster Team

The goal for Elixir Skin Clinic is clear—to create a relaxing and ethical environment for treatments, where patients can feel safe and valued. Lyndsey explains, “I have always taken a nurse-first, businesswoman-second approach, ensuring every treatment I perform is truly beneficial. This has been the harder route, but it’s the right one.”

Life Beyond Aesthetics

When Lyndsey and Ayesha are not in the clinic, life revolves around family, good food, and dogs! Finding balance between work and personal life is important, and spending quality time with loved ones keeps the Elixir Doncaster Team grounded and motivated.

A Message To Patients Past, Present & Future

More than anything, Lyndsey and Ayesha want their patients to know how much they value their trust. “Being part of our patients’ aesthetic journey is a privilege. We appreciate every single patient who chooses us and continues to trust the Elixir Doncaster Team with their treatments.”

This International Women’s Day, Elixir Skin Clinic stands as a reminder of the strength, dedication, and empowerment that women bring to business. It’s not just about beauty—it’s about confidence, ethics, and making a difference.

Happy International Women’s Day 2025!
